pop the ballon and find out

What a simple dating show on YouTube thought me about women

A few months ago, against my will—in other words, by the mighty powers of the YouTube algorithm—I stumbled on a show called “Pop the Balloon or Find Love.” It’s a simple dating show where singles try to find love or get eliminated by—you guessed it—having their balloon popped. As simple as the show sounds, it also offers an uncensored gateway into the very complex world of today’s dating market and the human psyche. As a fully grown man, I must admit that I’m a little too embarrassed to say that I’ve been following the show religiously ever since.

I guess what I find most appealing about the show is that, unlike a scripted TV show, it’s raw and unfiltered. Seeing people put themselves out there in their most vulnerable state, all in the hopes of walking away with a potential partner, is extremely fascinating to me. Add to that the very gracious and warm attitude of the host, Arlette, and the top-notch production quality, and you then have the recipe to create an addicted audience. Beyond the drama, what I found most valuable about the show, over everything else, is that it has taught me a lot about female nature in ways no book or movie has. Curious to know what I discovered? Let’s find out:

1. Height Isn’t Everything—Unless You’re Under Six Feet!

Just like the law of gravity, you can’t deny that women love tall men. There is basically no limit to how tall you can be! For as long as I have been watching the show, I have never once heard a woman claim that a man is too tall for her. It doesn’t matter if you don’t have your life together just yet or you’re dressed like you just came back from a hiking trip—if you walk out there looking like a giraffe towering over every other living being, women almost always tend to give you the benefit of the doubt. Given how women are obsessed with height, high heels for men might be a solid business venture in the near future.

2. Charisma Over Cash

Whether it’s through wearing flashy outfits or putting on expensive jewelry, I noticed some guys tend to go the extra mile to display their wealth, and I found that it’s rather unsettling for women. While women understandably prefer men that are financially well-off, they can also see right through the men trying to compensate for lacking in other areas of their life with their money. I would even go as far as saying that it might even be a turn-off. Women seem to be more drawn to the hardworking man who earns a decent living, who is secure within himself and doesn’t seek validation from the outside world, than the man who is constantly looking for ways to show off his new Rolex.

3.  Women Want What Other Women Want

Even if you’re tall, got money, and appear confident, don’t think you are off the hook just yet. One of the strangest things I noticed on the show is that a man could check all of a woman’s boxes, but if she notices other women are popping their balloons, she will find an excuse to get rid of you. “Oh, I just don’t feel a connection.” “There is no spark.” “You’re still very handsome.” What all of this means is that a woman wants you only if other women want you as well. We could extrapolate this to state that women value the thoughts and opinions of friends, colleagues, and family members much more than men. So even though you pass a woman’s impossibly high standards, you are still very much at the mercy of her close ones.

4. Women Treat Rejection Like It’s the End of the World—And Sometimes, It Feels Like It Is

As it’s the nature of the show, it’s not always the women turning down men; it’s also the men turning down the women. I have consistently witnessed that the women are not remotely as good as men when it comes to handling rejection. The men, when they get rejected, are still calm, polite and respectful—they almost seem indifferent. On the flip side, the women, especially if they are attractive, don’t know how to act in the face of rejection. They become visibly agitated; their facial expressions and mannerisms change instantly to the point they might even start to sound rude without even realizing it. This just goes to show that a man has to master the skill of turning women down or risk having his world turned upside down on him.

So, there you have it folks. If you are a man genetically blessed with height, you just have to be alive and breathing—that’s all. If you think your money is going to get you a honey, think again. To land the woman of your dreams, you not only have to impress her but her friends and her entire bloodline. If you’re going to let a woman down, let her down easy—because you don’t want to POP THE BALLOON AND FIND OUT.
